Is it possible to make an impact with the help of social media? We think so. Via social media, we can inform, raise awareness, empower the public to take meaningful action. That’s why we produced the video-series “Inside Keyenberg – Hope for our hometown”. Keyenberg is a small bucolic town close to Erkelenz, in North Rhein-Westphalia, which is gradually being destroyed by the expansion of the lignite mine Garzweiler. The residents are being forced to relocate. Their hope is to make their stories known thanks to the media attention around the Hambach Forest and the Coal Commission. According to Norbert Winzen, one of the residents of Keyenberg: “Our only hope is mass. Media and mass.” With these videos we are helping them to save their town and to put an end to the German coal industry.
